Two bladder cancer modules have been developed; a 24-item questionnaire for patients with superficial bladder cancer (Ta, T1, CIS), and a 30-item questionnaire for patients with muscle invasive bladder cancer (T2, T3, T4a and T4b). The two modules share a number of common items and scales, including those assessing urinary symptoms, bowel symptoms, and sexual functioning. The superficial bladder cancer module contains additional items assessing side effects of intravesical treatment (fever, malaise, convenience of and worry due to repeated cystoscopies). The muscle-invasive bladder cancer module contains additional items assessing urostomy problems, problems associated with the use of a catheter, and body image. These two modules have been translated into several European languages.
The field testing of these modules will take place in the context of clinical trials of the EORTC Genito-Urinary Tract Cancer Cooperative Group, and other collaborating investigators.
