Imaging in RT

An Imaging Task Force within the ROG has been formed, under the leadership of

Dr. Ursula Nestle

Dr. Nestle is the ROG representative within the newly formed Imaging Group (IG) of the EORTC, and member of the IG-subcommittee “Imaging in Radiotherapy” (IRT).

The aims of the ROG Imaging Task Force are:

·      Promote and support joint activities with the EORTC IG

·      Address subjects such as: pre-treatment imaging (prognostic factors, biologically interesting sub-volumes); imaging for target volume definition; imaging of normal issue pre and post RT; establishing imaging measures for RT response; use of imaging warehouse for research on imaging after RT (detection of recurrence, imaging of side effects).

A first brain-storming meeting of the Imaging Task Force was held in Freiburg at the end of May 2010, where a number of project ideas were presented:

·      Head and Neck: high dose re-irradiation of recurrent head and neck tumours; PET-based TV delineation in the context of high dose retreatment

·      Lung: high tech. trial in stage I-IIIa NSCLC with targeting PET-positive areas only, and high hypofractionated doses depending on tumour location and lymph nodes; hypoxia tracers in RT planning

·      Brain: image analysis/artificial intelligence measures in brain MRI; perfusion MRI in glioma; evaluation of PET imaging in low grade glioma; COTANOC-PET based irradiation of meningioma

·      Breast: use of staging FDG-PET

·      Technique: comparison of automatic contouring systems

Any ROG member, who would like to become involved in the Imaging Task Force, is asked to contact Dr. Nestle.
