RADIOTHERAPY TECHNOLOGISTS SECTION
Last update: september 27, 2009
Objectives |
| |
The RT Technologists Section of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Radiation Oncology Group proudly presents its renewed structure and objectives. In the near future, the RT Technologists section will be starting new projects and participate in the preparation of new trial protocols. It will also put an effort into building an European network of RT technologists. According to their specific field of expertise, RT technologists will be asked to participate in projects, review trial protocols, and present their activities during the annual Radiation Oncology Group meetings. RT technologists will also be challenged to take on responsibilities regarding the introduction and quality assurance of EORTC trials within their own departments. |

Board and Representation in the Radiation Oncology Group |
| |
The new board will consist of 4 persons in addition to the chairman, the group will appoint a new secretary, a projects supervisor and a science supervisor. The RT Technologists Section Chairman is an ex-officio member of the Radiation Oncology Group Steering Committee. As such, he represents the Section, presents the projects and reports on the activities to the ROG Steering Committee. Day to day matters can be directly reported to the ROG Executive. |

Projects |
| |
|
The projects supervisor will play a key role in the initiation of new RT Technologists projects. The group will review the standard Radiotherapy protocol text and Radiotherapy Form for future EORTC trials. In case of a new trial, the edited version of the Radiotherapy protocol text and Form will be commented upon by RT Technologists experts. The section is planning to initiate supplementary research related to new EORTC trial protocols with the aim of proposing independent research projects to be carried out under the authority of the EORTC. |
| Science |
| |
The science supervisor will play a key role in the exchange of scientific information among RT Technologists. Parallel to the regular Radiotherapy Oncology Group (ROG) meetings, the RT Technologists Section will organize international symposia during which RT Technologists can present results of their own research activities. The symposia will always deal with topical subjects that have significant impact on the work of RT Technologists. The symposia will also serve as a platform. During interactive sessions, RT Technologists will discuss concepts for new research, exchange opinions and comment on various subjects that are of special interest for the Section. |
| |
| International representatives and experts |
| |
The RT Technologists Section will put an effort into building an international network of RT Technologists. This network will consist of local and national representatives, members and experts. Local representatives will prepare their own departments for new EORTC protocols. They will monitor the data collection process and make sure research data is returned to the EORTC conclusively and complete. National representatives connect the board to the local representatives and will play an important role in crossing the language barrier. RT Technologists from participating institutes can take on responsibilities as a member in activities and projects of the Section, while some of them will be consulted as experts for reviewing EORTC protocols and take part in RT Technologists’ supplementary research. |
