Groningen, July 5th 2007
Dear colleagues,
After a very successful symposium for RT Technologists, during the EORTC Radiotherapy Oncology Group meeting last October in Groningen, a group of technologists has gathered to develop a new plan for our Section. The result comprises a new structure and new objectives. Attached you will find an overview of this new plan which was conceived during a meeting on May 4th at the EORTC headquarters in Brussels.
When you read the outline of the plan, you see that one of our most important aims is to build a European network of RT Technologists. This means there is an opportunity for you, RT Technologist, to participate as a member, representative and / or expert. This network could collect local experiences and give a general feedback to all the members, so that Technologists knowledge and skills would circulate efficiently.
In addition, there is a vacancy for the position of projects supervisor.
With this letter, we would like to inform you of the aims and plans of the section, but more importantly, we are addressing you personally, and encouraging you to participate.
First, we would like you to sign up as a member by simply returning the reply form after including your address information, professional specialties, and the level of participation convenient to you. By becoming a member you will receive information regarding activities of the group, but if you want, you can also be consulted as an expert in case new EORTC trial protocols need to be reviewed.
In addition, you or one of your colleagues can become the local representative of your department. This implicates responsibilities regarding the introduction of new EORTC trials in your department, particularly when these involve additional procedures to be carried out by technologists. It also means acting as a contact person for the group. If you have good communication skills and have good command of the English language, you may even be interested in becoming a national representative and act as an international contact person. To put all of this into practise, it is very important that you respond to this letter. Simply fill in the reply form and return it by email to Bert Pastoors
If it is not possible for you to become the local representative, please find one of your colleagues who will, and ask him or her to return the form. With your and your colleagues' help, we will be able to build the RT Technologists network, to start new RT Technologists projects, and to play an important role within the EORTC.
Best Reagards,
Frederic Duclos, Technologists Section Chairman
Marjolein van Os, Scientific supervisor
Hans Paul van der Laan , Scientific supervisor
